Description
You are bidding on a unique family portrait package donated by Bob Blackburn, a fine art photographer and a Head Royce parent. Historically Bob focused on landscape (western & industrial) and street photography. His passion for portrait photography grew from his candid portraits in the street genre, several of which have been widely exhibited in juried shows, including a "best of the Bay Area emerging artists" show at the California Modern Art Gallery in SF, best of the East Bay ProArts Annual show (all media), and several Reflections in Time shows at the Joyce Gordon Gallery, including the juror's award from the curator of Armand Hammer Museum in LA. To refine his studio technique, Bob has twice studied with noted LA portrait photographer Greg Gorman. He is currently in an advanced post-graduate program at the San Francisco Studio School. The family portrait is done using a special approach Bob developed. Up to six family members will be photographed individually and then a composite group shot will be constructed. The final composite is in a panorama format where the individuals look as if they were standing or sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. There are several advantages to this approach. First, everyone is optimally lit, which is critical to achieving the best possible portrait. Second, everyone's best shot is used. Third, people don't have to be there on the same day. Fourth, and most importantly, kids (and parents, too) tend to relax more when other family members are not present (or off somewhere else in the studio). Consistently a more "authentic" portrait results unlike typical canned poses. Finally, the sessions also produce "extra" individual portraits. Because Bob keeps the session fun and takes some silly (as well as serious) pictures, parents are using the "outtakes" for individual portraits or to make separate "many moods of" composites of each child. Included in the auction donation are up to six individual sittings, full editing and composite construction. Also included are up to 20 edited "outtakes." Not included are the cost of prints prepared by a custom professional lab, but you will get them at cost with no mark-up. For example, 30x10 prints (on display at the auction) can be had for about $35 on mounted photographic paper with a protective spray or about $125 on a gallery wrapped canvas (lab prices subject to change). Spectacular prints have been made up to 5 feet in length.
