Description

Single process color at www.marierobinsonsalon.com

After working for Pierre Michel, John Frieda, and Bumble and Bumble, celebrity colorist Marie Robinson caused a stir by leaving her longtime post as head colorist at Sally Hershberger and setting out on her own. Her airy, 5,000-square-foot salon in the Flatiron, which opened in the spring of 2010, is modern without feeling sterile, with 26 cube-shaped charcoal salon chairs, exposed beams, white walls, and contrasting dark hardwood floors. Robinson, whose in-house team is also made up of Hershberger vets, counts celebs like Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman, and Anne Hathaway among her clients. She works swiftly, calling out color-swatch names to her assistant like a mad scientist, whipping up combos that work not only with one’s skin tone but hair shape as well. Using foils, or painting on directly (à la Balayage), Robinson creates sun-kissed, face-framing highlights that make clients look like they’ve been to the beach rather than the hair salon  - NY Mag
