Michael Field grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. After service in the United States Navy, he attended art school at the Harris School of Art in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed four successful years at Harris and remained to teach art at his alma mater. Michael taught anatomy, headpainting and composition and was a primary member of the Harris staff. In 1988, Michael left the teaching profession in search of more personal fulfillment in his painting. Portrait painting has always drawn Michael andhe made a decision to follow that profession exclusively. He has many satisfiedclients all over the Southeast, including Memphis, Hilton Head, Nashville, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain, and Chattanooga. Michael has very high standards for his work and believes that a portrait should bear an excellent likeness to the subject without being in the least photographic. Composition also plays a large role in any portrait that Michael paints. The unique features of Michael's product and process have their roots in the way he paints with regard to technique and style. His interpretive portraits are more aligned to fine art than photographic realism.
