Blade-free iLASIK Vision Correction

Imagine life without contact lenses or glasses! LASIK is the nation’s most popular vision correction procedure. The latest, most technically advanced iLASIK method is 100% blade free and performed by Dr. Bill Plauche at RGB Eye Associates in Sherman, Texas.

Even though the idea of LASIK can be a little intimidating, this highly advanced approach takes only about 15-20 seconds per eye and less than 30 minutes for the entire LASIK procedure. It’s a highly sophisticated process that has been effective in treating millions of eyes. Clinical studies show excellent visual outcomes and high patient satisfaction when the IntraLase Method is used. It’s so precise, certain patients with thin corneas who were not eligible for LASIK before, may now be candidates.

About LASIK

LASIK is the nation’s most popular vision correction procedure, representing approximately 90% of all refractive procedures performed annually. 8.2 million LASIK procedures have been done since the mid-1990s. At RGB Eye Associates, we trust this advanced technology to deliver exceptional results. Our commitment is to provide you with the ultimate in comfort, safety and outstanding vision. iLASIK with IntraLase can help you achieve all of this – with the added assurance of knowing you’re being treated with the most advanced technology available.

How it Works

The first step is to prepare the intracorneal bed and create the corneal flap using an infrared light beam. With the IntraLase method, tiny pulses of laser light, a quadrillionth of a second each, pass harmlessly through the outer portion of your cornea and form a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of your eye. The exact dimensions of this layer of bubbles are determined by your doctor based on what’s best for your eye, and are computer controlled for maximum precision. The bubbles define the precise architecture of the intracorneal surface, as well as the distinct beveled edge of the resulting flap. The LASIK procedure is complete when the flap is securely repositioned on its beveled edge.

Traditionally, doctors have used an instrument called a microkeratome (a hand-held device with a metal blade) for the creation of LASIK flaps. iLASIK’s bladeless, computer-guided technology is 100% more accurate than most of the mechanical microkeratomes that surgeons traditionally used to create a corneal flap. In a clinical study comparing the IntraLase laser to the leading microkeratome, more patients achieved 20/20 vision or better when the IntraLase method was used to create the corneal flap.
