Description

Sure...it's right in our backyard, but have you every really explored Petroglyph National Monument?  This national park unit has one of the nation's largest concentrations of rock art (over 25,000 carved images).  These images are inseparable from the cultural landscape, and from the spirits of the people who created them and who appreciate them.

Dave Simon, Bosque parent and former Director of New Mexico State Parks will take you and up to five guests (party of six) on a special 2-hour walking tour of this remarkable and sacred place.  Get away from the traffic and the city for a relaxing and educational experience.  Includes either a picnic breakfast or lunch.

The winners of this trip from last year had this to say:  "We had a wonderful trip to Petroglyph National Monument! Our guide, Dave Simon, was very knowledgeable, educational and likeable.  It was a beautiful day.  We learned so much about a national treasure that is right here in our own back yard.  Inspiring....!"   Angel and Jerry Kushner

This ecosystem has a diverse population of plants, shrubs and trees which have adapted to live in the desert. It is home to a diverse population of mammals, reptiles and rodents. Also, fissure volcanoes can be seen on the mesa top which offer a rare look at geologic features of the Rio Grande Valley.

The presence of early American Indian activity can be found throughout the monument. The images left behind on the rocks tell the stories of those people who visited long ago. American Indian and Spanish Explorers were common visitors to the mesa and Rio Grande Valley.
