Description

Visit a 40 year-old, experimental, organic garden that boasts 350 different fruit plant/trees, many of which are extremely rare, over 1000 individual plants (40 year old sycamores, flowers, multi-grafted fruit trees, vines), and novel planting ideas on an acre in Point Dume.  See everything from tropical to temperate zoned plants in this spectacular yard. The owner has been devoted to cultivating his garden for 40 years and for as many years has been a member of the California Rare Fruit Growers Association (a non- profit organization whose purpose is to push the limits of growing to see what will and wont grow in California).

Prior to tour, watch a grafting demonstration. Following the tour, under the canopy of sycamores, enjoy a picnic-style lunch incorporating seasonal items from the garden in many of the foods and beverages served.

You will leave this tour with a sense of awe, beauty, and tranquility, a brief education on worm composting, recipes for green pesticide and the foods served incorporating items from the garden.  You may even get to pet a baby chick.

Sunday, May 20,  2012. 10:30 am (optional) grafting lesson, 11:00 am (prompt) 1 – 1 1/2 hour tour begins. Lunch will follow.
