Gecko Wire Bowl

Item Number: 383
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
Think of a hand woven osier basket, and this is the effect you see with this creatively made wire basket.
The bowl part of the basket is perfection itself, woven with extreme regularity, and bordered with a garland of hand strung beads in orange, green, black, blue, red, white.
The corps of the bowl is made as an open wire, but 4 geckos seem to be playing with each other. Each gecko is highly detailed, with its body made of a variety of colorful beads, and its long tail is also beaded. The four legs are uncannily well designed, and one can tell that the artisan spent time observing these geckos.
The upper part of the bowl is again woven like a basket, with a colorful rim of hand strung beads, in a great variety of colors that coordinate with those of the geckos.
This colorful gecko bowl will become your favorite fruit bowl, as well as a cheerful centerpiece on any table.
Special Instructions
Amanda Bosca founder of Accents for Today - a fine connoisseur of art and design - travels to Zimbabwe every year in search of unique items, hand made by African artisans.
Zimbabwe is one of the poorest African countries. In spite of it all, artisans burst with creativity, using any material they can find to create objects.
Geckos serve a very beneficial purpose in warm climates. They eat unwanted insects, thereby protecting people from diseases.
Often, geckos will take residence in a home, and essentially eat all insects in sight, including malaria bearing mosquitoes for example.
Artisans often create gecko designs, a symbol of benevolent protection.
