Description

Cheerful and classic at the same time, this navy and sky blue necklace and earrings set are a must for your Spring/Summer wardrobe.

The 12 inch long necklace offers a combination of tiny dark cobalt blue beads with 1 inch hand made glazed ceramic beads that are the focal point of the necklace.

The ceramic beads are round, and flattened like a patty. Each shape is a little different, adding interest to the overall look.

There are seven of them, separated by small silver plated rings that add a little sparkle to the ensemble. Each ceramic bead has a different design. The beads on each end of the string have dark navy blue and sky blue stripes. There are solid sky blue beads, and beads with dark navy and sky blue swirls. The center bead stands out with a swirl of blue and antique gold that compliments the pattern on the earrings.

The earrings are the same size ceramic beads as in the necklace. They are navy blue with bold sky blue and antique gold dots made with brush strokes.

You will be proud to wear a one of a kind piece of jewelry, uniquely created made by our Montville based friend, Cindy Kirby from Cultural Expressions.

Special Instructions

Kazuri Beads (the beads used to make this jewelry) is a project started in 1975 by Lady Susan Wood who wanted to help disadvantaged women of the Kikuyu Tribe in Africa. She purchased a portion of Karen Blixen's plantation ( as seen in the movie "Out of Africa").

Today, the Kazuri factory employs 400 women in Kenya and is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.  It produces a wide range of handmade, hand-painted ceramic beads that shine with a kaleidoscope of colors inspired by the African landscape and culture.

Cindy Kirby, our designer, spends hours selecting the beads that will soon become her own creation.  Each necklace and set of earring is a unique creation.

When you bid on this item, and wear it, you are helping women find work, and earn respect from their families and communities. They too gain their independence and dignity!
