Community Boating serves the metropolitan Boston Community by enhancing the overall quality of city life. The scope of our organization encompasses a diverse population. In 2007 we had 1987 juniors and 2700 adults and 275 high school sailors from over 30 towns and communities in the metropolitan Boston area. Many of our members are residents of Boston and its surrounding neighborhoods. On the larger scale though, thousands of people worldwide have learned how to sail at CBI. Our Junior members span all economic levels and ethnic groups.
Mission
The mission of Community Boating, Inc., is the advancement of sailing for all by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to sailing. In addition, CBI enhances the greater Boston community by using sailing as a vehicle to empower its members to develop independence and self-confidence, improve communication, foster teamwork, and acquire a deeper understanding of community spirit and the power of volunteerism.
Community Boating's program is the largest, oldest, and best public sailing program in the United States, and serves as a model program for many others.
Junior Classes
CBI's Junior Program offers sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking classes for kids ages 10 to 18. All CBI Instructors have their US Sailing Level One Instructor certification and First Aid and CPR certifications from the Red Cross. To participate in the Junior Program, kids must have parental permission and must be able to swim at least 75 yards.
