About Camp Stanley:

Camp Stanley at Matoaka is a two week co-educational New England performing arts and visual arts camp located in beautiful Smithfield, Maine on East Pond.

Camp Stanley devises an original show using the Total Theatre process. In two weeks, Camp Stanley campers conceptualize, improvise, write, act, sing, dance, clown, shoot and edit their way to success. The end result is a creative, cohesive and inspired show our community shares with family and friends at the conclusion of camp.

Imagine a place where your child’s unique creativity is celebrated. An environment where ideas are honored. A community where independent thinking is cultivated. Camp Stanley is that place. We are a totally creative collaborative community of budding artists and problems solvers of tomorrow.

We do something no one else does. We make original art! Each August, our entire community constructs a show based upon a theme. We call this construction project TOTAL THEATRE because it includes everything and everybody. If your child has an interest in sewing, they learn how to style and design costumes. If your child is an aspiring opera singer, we write an operetta. If your child loves watching movies and wonders how to make one, we show them how. If your child loves getting messy with paint, we figure out how to funnel that creative energy into the making of our TOTAL THEATRE production. The wider we make the circle of friends, the sweeter the production.

On the last day of camp, we share our thought provoking and exciting show with family and friends. We look forward to meeting all creative kids, ages 8-17, who are looking to immerse themselves in an artistic and green environment.

Who is Stanley?
So many people ask that very question! Camp Stanley is actually named after the Zaborowski sisters’ Grandpa Stanley.  Jess and Jen had never met him but quite frequently used Grandpa Stanley as a main character in various Zaborowski family playroom pretend sessions.

The mystery of Stanley sparked the performance bug in both sisters and when asked to name their summer camp, they felt it quite fitting to name it after their favorite character whose spirit captures the essence of a Camp Stanley experience; love of family, the value of friendships, the pursuit of creativity, the right to play, and the power of fun.
