Description
To Kalon is Greek for highest quality or greatest beauty and this wine is named for Beckstoffer To Kalon, which is unquestionably the premier of all of Andy Beckstoffers vineyards, whose passion for growing the best grapes possible is legendary in the Napa Valley. Along with cabernet grapes from Star, Stagecoach and Atlas Peak vineyards, Macauley has created a blend that is wowing critics with its power and complexity. Robert Parker considers this vintage to be the best in the Macauley portfolio, saying it should be a 20-year wine for sure. Wine Spectator also raves about the wine but recommends drinking it even now, giving it a 93 rating and describing it as intense and concentrated, with a stylish mix of cedar, espresso, currant, blackberry, sandalwood and black licorice flavors. Pure, ripe, full-bodied and focused, with a long, lingering finish that keeps repeating the berry and sandalwood themes. Cellartracker.com members also rave about this 07 Macauley, with a recent review stating it was superior to an '06 Buccella. Only 198 cases were made so take this chance while you can to get your hands on this big, rich California cabernet.
