Description

The mission statement of Gus Kalaris, proprietor of Axios and Worthy wines makes clear that the Worthy label was developed to produce high priced quality Napa wines at less than triple digit pricing. They only bottle as much wine as meets this criteria which often means low distribution. The wines are made from the grapes not utilized by Kalaris premium label Axios wine, but follows the same target of excellence, just under a different wine maker. The 2008 Five Clones Sauvignon blanc was rated 90 points by Parker who wrote it is a sort of hybrid blend of New Zealand combined with a Loire Valley style of Sauvignon. Crisp, fresh lemon grass notes intermixed with melon, fig, and spice builds incrementally in the mouth. It is fresh and medium-bodied, with loads of fruit. Of the Sophias cuvee wines Wine Spectator wrote complex, fruity and perfumed aromas lead to rich, elegant blackberry and black cherry with touches of herb and olive and pretty, toasty oak flavors that make for a smooth, enticing aftertaste. Impeccably balanced, with a long, focused finish. The Washington Post said I doubt that there is a Cabernet in the price range that can touch (the Worthy) right now. This is a great pair to indulge in without pain to your pocket!
