Internationally recognized mosaic artist Elisabeth Raybee has teamed up with our very own Nueva first graders to create a stunning, one-of-a-kind copper and mosaic beehive. Under Raybee's direction, the children have cut and placed tiles into four individual pieces of framed mosaic art depicting scenes of nature that adorn the hive. This beautiful garden statuary will be a unique castle for the new queen and her friendly honeybees. The Marin Bee Company will take good care of our hive during the first year while teaching you how to care for your low-maintenance hive as well as harvest the delicious honey! A basket of all apiary necessities will be included. Colony-collapse disorder has shrunk the local bee population by 30 percent in recent years. This decline poses a threat to California's fruit and vegetables, 80 percent of which are pollinated by bees. This is the perfect opportunity to help honeybees flourish--and Nueva, too!
