Description
"Queen II Album Cover 1974" Limited edition archival quality print, framed with archival quality materials. Autographed by famed iconic rock and roll photographer, Mick Rock. Donated in 2011 to San Francisco Rock Project by Mick Rock on his personal visit to the school.
Mick Rock’s cover photo for Queen’s 1974 recording has the distinction of being an image that both served to establish the band’s unique “class act” image and, later on, provided the setting and inspiration for the video production that convinced record labels and music fans that “the music video” could be much more than simply “promotional”.
Mick Rock discusses the photograph:
"An outtake from my classic ‘Queen II’ album session, the cover of which was copied a couple of years later for their ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ video. The lighting and the cover shot hand position was inspired by a still of Marlene Dietrich on the set of ‘Shanghai Express’. But I also did several other setups, using the same lighting, with Freddie’s hands in different positions, including the shot offered here, which is probably my favorite of the ‘alternative hands position’ images. At the time of the session Queen were still a virtually unknown act. This was the album that set them on the path to their amazing career. And of course this was the session that imprinted their image indelibly on the mass public consciousness and remains the session that forever defined their classic grandeur." – Mick Rock 2011.
