Jewelry by Cathy Waterman, Philip Crangi, Conroy & Wilcox, Ten Thousand Things, Arielle DePinto, Mizuki, Jeanine Payer, LIzzie Fortunato Jewels, and a well curated selection of Antique and Estate pieces! It seems like yesterday that Metier set up shop in downtown San Francisco, although it's closer to twenty years.

Visitors to our sun-washed perch near Union Square sometimes observe that our sensibility would not be amiss in New York or Los Angeles. While this may be true, we feel a deep kinship with our "Cool, Grey City of Love," as one poet described San Francisco almost a century ago. Indeed, our aesthetic is shaped both by the city's weather patterns and its cultural climate.

When you're shrouded in fog one minute and walking in dazzling sunlight the next, artful layering is a way of life. Richly patterned scarves, crisp jackets, and gossamer-light sweaters dyed in painterly hues address the capriciousness of the weather and the expressive nature of our neo-Bohemian populace, who are known for developing futuristic technologies from behind the bay windows of their Victorian abodes (when they're not working on a novel).

In a mass-produced world, we're drawn to designers, jewelers, and cobblers who take the time to imprint their works with a point of view — be it a delicately hand-shredded t-shirt, a diamond mosaic brooch, or an Italian cowboy boot that's been roughed up and softened before it ever meets a foot. There's a method to our mash-up of American and European designers — "modern with a vintage edge," as one customer described it — who produce smaller runs of their creations rather than cranking out bushels of identical goods. 

Dipping into eras, mixing patterns, softening edges with hand-wrought details is how Metier has come to define San Francisco style, which - it turns out - resonates far beyond the borders of our city by the bay.
