Description

Ceramic Painting signed by the artist, Sandra Petrella. Mounted on black frame which measures 17" wide X 14" high.

Since a child in Sao Paulo, Brazil Sandra Petrella was passionate about Art. When she was 11 years old she started oil painting and later on she participated on a ceramic workshop and was part of a women's craft group founded by the State. Uncertain of the future she decided to get a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology from "Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo" which she finished in 1999.

In the beginning of 2000 she moved to Los Angeles, CA and saw it as a chance to follow her passion and started drawing at UCLA and end up getting a Certificate degree in Graphic Design from Santa Monica College in 2004. By that time she had the opportunity to design in companies like Arbor Snowboards, Sambazon, Hamagami and Carroll, Teds and others.  She started focusing in web design and created Baladala.com, an Online Brazilian Magazine. At that time she started ceramic classes for therapeutic reasons and fell in love!

It has been 3 years now that she has been working with high fire ceramics, low fire ceramics, metal clay, figure modeling sculpture, acrylic painting and mixed media. She has Sandra Zebi, a well known artist as her mentor and has taken classes and workshops with great artists and instructors like Bruce Tomkinson, Franklyn Phillips, Lora Hart and David Simon and has displayed her art pieces at Ten Women Gallery, Venice - CA, Santa Monica Airport Art Walk, Santa Monica-CA , The Art Exhibit at the Brazilian Mall, Culver City-CA, Silver Lake Art Crawl-CA, Abbot Kinney Festival, Venice-CA and Farragut Elementary, Culver City-CA. Also there is a publication of her work at the Brasil Best magazine, June edition and at their website: www.brasilbest.com/sandrapetrella_junho2009.php

Her work is defined by figurative ceramics (inspired by the Brazilian folk art), modeling sculpture, functional and decorative ceramics and a new dinosaur inspired kids line.
