A Green Parrot art lesson of “Me in the Mirror” inspired this beautiful, collaborative Ceramic Tile Mirror. The children’s interest in painting their self-portraits was sparked by the reading of “We Are Alike… We Are All Different” written by: Cheltenham Elementary School. They learned that one could begin one’s painting by sketching ideas down and then adding special touches with a stroke of paint. The children also learned that shapes are all around us and if they observe and examine things carefully, they will find lots of shapes. The children learned that they are able to use the shapes that they observe in objects to help them draw and create everything, even their own self-portraits.

The goal of this lesson was to help the students develop self-confidence in their drawing and painting skills and abilities. This collaborative project also encouraged teamwork.

Putting together these tiles made a vibrant frame to this mirror.

A special thanks to Dave Dignam, dad of Sasha from the Blue Jays, who so generously contributed his time and expertise to help put the tiles together into this beautiful mirror.
