Read it for pleasure, buy it to TREASURE!

Take home a lasting memory of Principal Hanson by purchasing one of the TWO books she chose above all others. The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson is appropriate for older children (The publisher's recommendations are age 10 and grade level 5).

I introduced Gilly Hopkins to my 4^th and 5^th grader readers for years.  She is a tough little cookie who, over time and with lots of patience, learns to love and be loved by others.  As an abandoned child in a foster home, Gilly walks a difficult road through life and faces many challenges along the way.  And, while the ending is surprising and unconventional, it cements lessons for children that reinforce the importance of love, loyalty, and allowing others to care for us and help us heal.  Be prepared to shed a tear or two!  One of my all time favorites.  - Kari Hanson
