Description
John Lane's Ogunquit Playhouse, one of Southern Maine's most important cultural landmarks, brings Broadway to the Beach each season. Opening in 1933, the work and vision of Walter and Maude Hartwig brought an outstanding, star-studded performing arts company to Ogunquit. Continuing this tradition for almost five decades, John Lane, owner and producer of the Playhouse, sought to provide his audience with the finest professional theatre in our region. In doing so, he successfully placed the playhouse on the national cultural map.
Over its 75 year history it attracted a list of celebrities that read like a who's who of American actors; Bette Davis, Myrna Loy, Anthony Quinn, Merv Griffin, Olympia Dukakis, Cybil Sheppard, Jerry Orbach, Walter Matthau, Steve McQueen, Loretta Swit, Gene Wilder, William Shatner, Leslie Uggams, and Andrea McCardle are among the hundreds of stars who have performed on the Ogunquit Playhouse stage.
During the 2012 season, the Ogunquit Playhouse will produce Always Patsy Kline, Dolly Parton's Nine to Five, Damn Yankees (the New Boston Red Sox version), Buddy, the Buddy Holly Story and one more show not yet determined. Public ticket sales will be available in late March on their website or by calling the box office at 207-646-5511.
