Bud Grant coached the MN Vikings for 18 seasons (1967-83 and 1985) and his 168 career victories ranked 8th on NFL's all-time list entering the 1998 season. He led the Vikings to 11 divisional championships in 1968-1971, 1973-78, and 1980; a 1969 NFL title, and; three NFC titles in 1973, 1974 and 1976.

Grant earned nine letters in three sports at the University of Minnesota - football, basketball, and baseball. He also played in the NBA, NFL and CFL before coaching CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He is the only person ever to be inducted into the NFL and CFL Halls of Fame.
