Marlies Hoevers was born in the Netherlands and got her art degree at the Royal Academy of Art in 2006. She started her career as a certified interior architect with Merkx+Girod Architects, a leading architecture studio in The Netherlands, based in Amsterdam. It was during that time Marlies developed a strong fascination for the inherent beauty and soul of old materials and their potential reuse in various forms of art.

After moving to Santa Cruz, California, Marlies began to experiment with concrete, textiles and scavenged objects in her new art studio. By placing these found materials into a new context, they are converted into ART-FOSSILS. Here they are combined into a single composition and fixated in concrete for eternity and beyond. While subjecting the old materials and objects to a dramatic metamorphosis, her art captures their souls and gives these forgotten materials a new elevated purpose: one of BEING ART.
