Description
A six week role with Available Light Theatre (AVLT) as they create a new production in fall 2012. Participate in every aspect of theatre production, and gain insight into what is necessary backstage and in the boardroom to create a successful arts organization. An eye-opening, challenging and thrilling experience for any student interested in making a life in the arts.
Attendance is required for two evenings per week for six weeks. The goals and opportunities are as follows:
Attend Rehearsals
- observe rehearsals throughout the process
- understand how the show grows and changes, from reading to opening
- learn about collaborations among many artists
- discuss artistic choices with actors, technicians, and the director
Junior Board
- meet regularly with AVLT's Board of Directors
- provide fresh perspective on issues facing the company
- design a project to address key challenges
- execute the project and evaluate its success
Backstage
- observe technicians and designers at work
- sit in on design meetings
- participate as a production intern
- experience what the audience never gets to see
The Completed Show
- watch the finished show with parents and peers
- discuss the play with the audience
- “talkback” with the artists about what's on-stage
- reflect on how the process manifests the production
Available Light Theatre is a fellowship of artists dedicated to building a more conscious and compassionate world by creating a joyful and profound theatre. AVLT was named Best Live Theatre by the Columbus Alive Readers Poll in 2009, and was awarded the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Artistic Excellence Award in 2010.
