The Lost Jazz Shrines series is dedicated to bringing legendary New York City jazz clubs back into the consciousness of the world with a thorough remembrance and celebration. This season celebrates the great voices of the 52nd Street era. Bessie Smith was one of the most popular female blues singers of the 1920’s and 1930’s and is often referred to as The Empress of the Blues. Jackie Paris is one of the underrated legends of jazz song who was a true "musician's musician"; he also played the guitar on occasion, something that Allan Harris does quite adeptly in his shows.
Allan Harris (Musical Director) is a world-class singer, guitarist and songwriter. Perhaps best known for his interpretations of jazz standards, Allan’s smooth vocals and guitar-styling easily crosses genres, from jazz to rock to blues. Allan Harris has been hailed by the New York Times as "one of the best jazz vocalists of his genre." In 2011, he won the Backstage Bistro Award for "Ongoing Achievement in Jazz."
Maya Azucena earned a Grammy Award Certificate for collaboration with Stephen Marley on Mind Control, "Best Reggae Album of the Year." AllHipHop.com awarded Maya with the "Best Alternative Artist of the Year" award. “Armed with a powerfully compelling voice, Azucena just could be the most impressive of the current hip-hop/soul/r&b diva crop…” raves the Village Voice.
