Artist's Statement

Colors, shapes, calligraphy and textures fuel the combustion that drive my visual expression. I’ve been mesmerized since childhood watching both parents evolve in their love affairs with painting and ceramic sculpture. My images are personal and come from a blood line fed with small town and big city family life. For now, I work between moments when diapers, food and shuffling kids along the street do not consume me. (There’s no time to waste.)
My work is alchemical, kaleidoscopic, in street-wise motion and reflects a multilayered exposure to travel and art studies in Sao Paulo, Istanbul, London and NYC. My images are childhoods in urban neighborhoods, occasionally frantic and sometimes glitzy - an “in your face” color commentary with hints of graffiti influence as seen in the Glut series. Discovery, part of my Big Bang series, is a current project which plays on dissonant and analogous color constructions and flat shapes in shallow space - perhaps a metaphor for big city depth. All in all, my work is an affair with the intangibles that give rise to living fully in the unexpected dynamics that shape our lives and the world around us.
