The beautiful musical Once on this Island by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty premiered at Playwrights Horizons in 1990, and moved to a Broadway production later that year. The story of the peasant girl Ti Moune, the upper class boy she falls in love with, and the intervention of the gods to determine if love is stronger than death, the production earned eight Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
