Sunday in the Park With George was originally staged as a Playwrights Horizons workshop production in July of 1983 directed by James Lapine and starring Bernadette Peters as Dot/Marie and Mandy Patinkin as George. It subsequently moved to Broadway in spring of 1984 and was nominated for ten Tony awards.
