Sylvie has many years experience teaching French to children and adults. She is an Associate Professor at SUNY Old Westbury, she holds a Master’s in Classics (Paris IV-Sorbonne) and a Ph. D in African History (Paris VII), written under the direction of Catherine Coquery-Vidrovitch.

She is the author of three books, Terres, urbanisme et architecture ‘créoles’ en Sierra Leone, 18ème-19ème siècles (Paris: L’Harmattan, 1998), Lagon, lagunes, a text of poetic prose published in 2000 by Gallimard and La quête infinie de l’autre rive. Epic in three cantos, Gallimard, 2011.
