Matsumoto Dojo is the official Manhattan branch of the World Oyama Karate Organization. Since opening our doors in February 2005 under the leadership of Sensei Daisuke Matsumoto, we’ve grown into one of Manhattan’s most active dojos, offering classes 7 days a week for adults, teens and children.

Our dojo also hosts promotion tests quarterly, tournaments, karate day camp for kids, summer sleepaway camp, beach training and daytrips, barbeques, special trainings for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, an annual Halloween party, as well as other events throughout the year to promote mutual friendship and an exchange of techniques, often with other tri-state area WOKO dojos. It’s not unusual to find students age 4 to 64 training together—either at our dojo or in a breathtaking outdoor setting. We also actively compete in all WOKO Tournaments, as well as other style tournaments.

Our full-day (9-5/5:30) day camp is fun and challenging for all levels, from those brand new to Karate through Black Belts. Campers are immersed in all aspects of Karate and self-defense, plus they’ll enjoy origami, drawing, clay, Japanese cooking, Japanese cartoons, meditation and relaxation. Each weekly session is rounded out with a field trip and a Thursday pizza party plus daily snacks and lunch are also included. Our Karate Camp is an excellent way to channel all that youthful energy while fostering discipline, focus, respect, appreciation and self-esteem. Our midtown location and extended hours make drop-off and pick-up extra convenient for parents who work in the area.
