Well known, local artist Ethel Roehrig's canvases capture the spirit of old Hawaii– women and children in mu’umu’us and hats making leis and holding babies, going about their daily lives in their peaceful island world. Strong and ordered compositions and sophisticated color harmony give her images a directness that captures the tranquillity of a bygone era without sentimentality.
