About the Artist

Lu Hong is one of the contemporary artists from China who infuses inspiration from the Western World with his own techniques, encompassing the styles of Eastern and Western cultures.

Hong, was born in 1959, in the coastal city of Quin-Huang-Dao. The cultural revolution had a significant effect on artists, it was forbiden to paint in any style other than traditional Chinese. In the 1970's the lines of communication between the outside world and China were restablished while Hong was going to high school.

It was during this less rigid climate when Hong's Uncle, Ting Shao Kuang came to visit his family. Ting already a world renowned painter saw promise in his nephews artistic abilities. He encouraged Hong to pursue a career in the arts. Upon finishing high school, Hong moved in with Ting and worked under him with the aim of absorbing as much artistic energy as possible until Ting moved to the United States two years later.

Lu Hong moved to the United States in 1986 where he was reunited with his teacher, Ting Shao Kuang. Due to the encouragement that he received from Ting and publisher Ron Segal, Lu Hong has become one of the most acclaimed contemporary Chinese artists in America.
