Clemson Cedar Bowl
Item Number: 189
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
In 2011 it was necessary to cut down two large cedar trees on the campus of Clemson University. Both trees were examined by the BioScience Department and genetic phenotyping was performed for authenticity. The trees were estimated to be over 200 years old and they were located on John C. Calhoun’s plantation where he lived from 1825-1850. Later the land was owned by Thomas Clemson.
Clemson University commissioned Keowee Karvers and its craftsmen to turn the cedar wood into works of art. This wooden bowl is from tree #1 and is signed by the artist. It is a one of a kind from wood that can never be replaced. A photograph of this bowl and the owner’s name will be kept on file.
