Description
Take a winter break and enjoy Philadelphia with two (2) tickets to "The Nutcracker" at the Academy of Music, dinner for two (2) at "Lacroix at the Rittenhouse" and an overnight stay at The Union League Club - all courtesy of First Niagara Bank. Philadelphia sparkles during the holidays!
Architect Benjamin Wystar Morris (1870-1944) designed the Clubhouse at 37th Street and Park Avenue, property that once belonged to the family of J. P. Morgan. It was completed in 1931. The Georgian exterior, with its symmetrical red brick façade, reflects familiar motifs from Park Avenue brownstone mansions, but on a grand ten-story scale. The architectural ensemble formed by the entrance foyer and grand staircase stands as one of Morris’s great successes and as a New York landmark interior. It is the Union League Club’s fourth residence. The Club contains 60 bedrooms for members and guests, a variety of meeting rooms for business and social functions, and one of the most extensive club reference and lending libraries in New York City. The Union League is also home to a distinguished art collection and an art gallery with rotating exhibits. The fitness center features all the amenities of a first class sports club, including international squash courts.
Stimulate your mind and palate as you taste creative new flavors and savor the familiar. Lacroix at the Rittenhouse reinvents fine dining as they blend ingredients from around the globe in unique preparations to create Progressive International Cuisine at Lacroix, overlooking historic Rittenhouse Square.
For 43 years, families have created unforgettable yuletide memories with Pennsylvania Ballet’s production of this classic tale. The simple story of a girl and a gift is made magical by opulent sets and costumes, plus the accompaniment by the renowned Philadelphia Boys Choir and Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, bringing Tschaikovsky’s iconic score to life.
The performance’s setting at the crystal-encrusted Academy of Music makes the holiday experience even more spectacular. The hall is the country’s oldest known opera house, modeled in 1857 after Milan’s La Scala.
The Nutcracker is one of the city’s most poignant holiday traditions, made special to Philadelphia by our own elite dancers and historic Academy. Don’t miss it.
