Description

Bid for this stunning painting of oil on canvas "Yellow and Orange" by artist Melanie Roher.

The colors of fall are heightened by the glorious landscape in Rockefeller Park where Melanie walks nearly every week, all year round. In this painting she has tried to capture the feeling of being surrounded by light filtering through the towering trees in blazing yellows and oranges.

Melanie Roher began her career in graphic and exhibit design at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, designing exhibitions and interpretive graphics. Working on staff at the Met gave her the ability to study all forms of art firsthand on a daily basis. It was an invaluable experience. Later, she served as art director for Mobil Oil Corporation and ultimately formed her own communications design firm, Roher/Sprague Partners of Irvington, NY.

Throughout Roher’s design career, she has continued to paint and draw. The interplay of graphic shapes, colors and light in the Hudson Valley where she resides, and on Long Island Sound where she sails, have been the inspiration for most of her landscape paintings. She has been a City Island Yacht Club member and avid sailor for more than 25 years, giving much of her work a focus from the waters in which she sails.

Melanie holds a BFA from Pratt Institute, and has also studied at Syracuse University and the School of Visual Arts. She has exhibited in Westchester, Connecticut and New York City.
