"The Near South Little League was founded by Jim Navarre, a south loop attorney and father of three boys, for two reasons: to provide a place for near south boys and girls to play baseball and to foster a sense of community among the residents of Chicago’s near south side. The league was founded in 2008 with games played at Ping Tom Park in the South Loop. In the 2009 season, the league moved to Dunbar Park and we were pleased to have Mayor Daley and Gov Quinn throw out a simultaneous first pitch. In just our second year, we had over 275 children enrolled in our program. We obtained a grant from Honda Motor Corporation which was used, in conjunction with Park District Funds, to significantly upgrade our fields for the 2011 seasons. We look forward to a great 2012 season for our little league and all star teams. Our league has continued to grow and improve every year. We have expanded our all star program which provides a higher level of competition for the more advanced player. We will be hosting our second annual Near South Little League White Sox Summer Baseball Camp from June 18th thru June 22nd.
