Last year's winning bidders had the following to report from their visit to the quaking bog in Colchester:
The Hill clan spent a wonderful morning with VCS science guru, Peter Goff, at the Colchester Bog last summer. We all donned mud boots and slopped our way through a thicket of shrubs, blueberry bushes, and tamarack trees out onto the the sphagnum moss where we proceeded to jump around and make the trees shake. The bog is home to the carnivorous pitcher plant but we returned from the trip with all our digits intact. It was awesome and we developed a deeper understanding how the bog's spongy ecosystem works and how it was formed. Nora marveled, "I literally felt the earth move under my feet." This trip is not to be missed!!!
