Etienne of the Phoenix Art Group was born in Boston but spent his early years in the sunlit desert climate of Phoenix. Etienne followed her passion for art, graduating with honors from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. She was profoundly influenced by Richard Diebenkorn and the playful, vibrant interplay of light and color in the figurative still-lifes of Wayne Thiebaud.
