Description
Rachel Basye is executive director of the Art Students League of Denver whose artwork began in the 1990s with black and white photography. Today she primarily does intaglio prints, using both photographs and drawings for her images. She has also done woodblock prints and screenprints. Her mask, "Silver Tara," features Tara, the Buddhist Goddess of generosity, good fortune, abundance and higher growth. She incorporated an orchid, a symbol of perfection and abundance, as well as a karakusa, or winding plant which is a good luck charm for prosperity. Paper elements, such as the butterfly eyelashes, symbolize joy and longevity.
