Charlie Mayo’s 40-year fascination with birch inspired his interest in birch bark crafts. He has traveled to Scandinavia to study with master bark weavers and has shared his own mastery with students since North House Folk School opened its doors in Grand Marais, MN. As a founding father of North House, Charlie has mentored other instructors who work with birch and was instrumental in the creation of North House’s signature publication, Celebrating Birch: The Lore, Art and Craft of an Ancient Tree. The winning bidder will have the chance to spend a day in a private tutorial with Charlie, learning the art of birch bark basketry from a true master.
