Description

Join North House Folk School board member Mary Boyle Anderson and her husband John Anderson on a two-day, one-night trip as they share some of their favorite sites along the North Shore from Grand Marais, MN, to the Canadian shoreline of Lake Superior. Begin your trip with World's Best Donuts and coffee sitting on the compass rose at North House Folk School, where we will pull out the maps and share thoughts for the next two days.

Spend an evening in a cozy, primitive yurt camp. Hike in and out to the camp through a boreal forest and bog. Lunch on the Big Lake's palisades. Wine, cheese, sauna and dinner at the end of day. Walk to the cliffs and watch the sunrise over Isle Royale. Bring your journal and find quiet places to sip coffee and watch for otters who playfully slip by. Look for raptors on their annual migratory route. Find the resilient arctic plants that call this shoreline home.

Day two will find us breaking camp after having John's pancakes ("the best"), then visiting the High Falls of Pigeon River, the Fort and Grand Portage National Monument. Lunch is delicious homemade pizzas in Hovland.

At the end of our trip we will say our good-byes in Grand Marais.

We hope this is a trip of inspiration and awe. And perhaps you will return to North House to build your own yurt or learn more from the classes offered at the Boreal Birding Festival, or . . . ?
