Item Number: 430
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
Dai Bosatsu Zendo’s Introduction to Zen Weekend program offers a unique opportunity for those who wish to acquaint themselves with Rinzai Zen Buddhist practice in a monastic environment. This residential retreat center is located in the Catskill Mountains of upper New York state.
DBZ's introductory workshops emphasize the basics: zazen (sitting posture and breathing), chanting, formal procedures for meals, and work practice. Each workshop begins late Friday afternoon with an orientation. Saturday evening there is a Dharma Talk given by Abbot Shinge Sherry Chayat Roshi. The workshop concludes with an informal lunch on Sunday afternoon (or Monday for extended weekends).
On America's Bicentennial, July 4, 1976, International Dai Bosatsu Zendo Kongo-ji, a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monastery, opened its doors. Located on 1,400 acres high in the Catskill Mountains Forest Preserve, DBZ continues to offer an ideal setting for authentic Zen practice to lay and ordained Zen students of all religious and cultural backgrounds.
