Description
Fire Island beach house available for the last week in August through Labor Day 2013 (August 26th though September 2nd). Located close to the ocean (three minute walk) on Fire Island, New York (barrier island to south of Long Island, only 90 minutes on the ferry from NYC), the Village of Ocean Beach is a family-friendly beach community with NO CARS, ideal for Beginnings families with small children. Ocean Beach’s “Main Street” (five minute walk) is replete with many shops, restaurants, inns, bars, and, of course, ice cream vendors.
The home is a modern, two story (flood-proof) house, featuring five bedrooms, three full baths (plus an outdoor shower), a media room, a fenced-in pool with integrated spa, and a huge, super-private (60’ x 30’) deck well equipped for lounging, dining and entertaining. Prepare your meals in the chef’s kitchen in the comfort of a powerful central A/C system or from the substantial outdoor kitchen equipped with a substantial 60,800 BTU grill, side burners, sink and beverage fridge.
This child-safe house is very bright and airy with the southern side of the house boasting double height cathedral ceilings, lined with windows and skylights. The first floor accommodations include the “bunk room” with two custom twin over full bunk beds (plus a trundle). Equipped with a TV, we’ve packed 6-7 kids in there and they LOVE it. The bunk room shares an en suite “Jack and Jill” bathroom with the north bedroom which contains a queen-size bed. The west bedroom or “pool room” also has a queen-size bed as well as sliding glass doors, egressing to the pool. Pool room guests would use either the hall bathroom or the outdoor shower. It should be noted that no one really showers indoor in Fire Island – something of a local custom.
Located upstairs, the master bedroom has a double sink en suite bathroom and a 10’ by 10’ south facing private deck overlooking the pool, also located upstairs is the “toddler” bedroom (with blackout shades) next to which is the media/play room with a large, super comfortable sectional couch that can comfortably accommodate those two friends of yours who missed the last ferry.
The home is technologically well-accessorized (multiple wifi access points with high bandwidth internet service, DirecTV, XBOX 360, Wii, Blu-ray players, Sonos sound system). There are plenty of children’s toys, art supplies, and games (adults board games, too). Additionally, there are several bicycles (big and small), various bicycle-attached child transport systems, a sea kayak, lots of fishing gear, and tons of beach and pool stuff.
