1. Bodegas Resalte de Penafiel (Ribera del Duero Crianza) – Vintage 2005 – from Spain - Wine Spectator rated 94 and ranked 26th on the Top 100 list for 2010.
Fresh and focused, this firm red delivers ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit, backed by espresso and licorice accents, finishing with alluring notes of sous-bois and mineral. Offers depth and drive. Drink now through 2016. 5,000 cases made.
2. Viticcio (Chianti Classico Riserva 2007) – Vintage 2007 – from Italy – Wine Spectator rated 93 and ranked 40th on the Top 100 list for 2010.
Subtle currant, cedar and floral aromas follow through to a dense, full-bodied palate of ripe fruits and silky tannins, with a long finish. A little age will soften this just slightly. Really serious. 3,000 cases made.
3. John Duval (Shiraz Barossa Valley Entity) – Vintage 2006 – from Australia – Wine Spectator rated 92
Juicy and lively, brimming with blackberry, currant and subtle spices, remaining fresh and brilliant through the long, persuasive finish. The tannins are crisp but well-integrated. Drink now through 2018. 1,000 cases imported.
4. Riboli Family (Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford) – Vintage 2006 – Wine Spectator rated 92
Firm, rich, intense and concentrated, with a tight mix of spicy currant, anise, wild berry, savory herb and sage notes. Full-bodied and focused, fanning out on the finish. Best through 2017. 500 cases made.
