Wilton Eckley provides a fascinating historical perspective on the history of the Colorado School of Mines in his book Rocky Mountains to the World. The story of Mines appropriately begins in the earliest days of the fevered quest for mineral riches sought in mining within the mountains of Colorado and follows with its rise to eminence in education and research as an academic institution in the sciences, engineering, and related disciplines.
