Description
A personal , rustic and spirtual haven awaits you.
Nestled onto 40-acres of semi-wilderness at the foot of the Los Padres Mountains, you can relax and enjoy a two night retreat for two at the Ojai Foundation near Santa Barbara, CA.in a traditional yurt or dome dwelling.
For over 30 years, The Ojai Foundation’s educational center has been a living laboratory of sustainable living, powered by the sun and featuring buildings of straw bale, earth block, recycled materials and other green techniques.
Our beautiful, rustic “heartquarters” occupies 40 acres along a ridge of semi-wilderness at the foot of the Los Padres Mountains in Southern California, between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Meditation gardens, native habitats, Permaculture principles and the Beauty Way are demonstrated throughout the Land, along with close kindredship with the natural world.
Sleeping facilities are simple and rustic, in the style of a private camp in a semi-wilderness setting, with shared bathhouses, hot showers and flush toilets. We have yurts, domes and tent sites.
Our geodesic domes have fabric walls, wooden plank flooring, zipper-flap entry doors and are roughly 15 feet in diameter. Our yurts are more home-like, with thicker walls, wooden plank flooring and a conventional swinging wooden door. You can stand up in both and all structures have solar-powered 12-volt lighting. All yurts and most domes include futon beds on frames. Most of our structures are designed for shared accommodation, although a few are best suited for couples or singles. We ask that you bring your own bedding.
In addition to yurts, domes and tent sites our facilities include two community vegetarian kitchens, our spacious and versatile Council House, indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, sweat ceremony area, tipi, gardens, a labyrinth and two outdoor hearths (available for additional fee.)
We honor and celebrate all spiritual ways, drawing most strongly on the earth-honoring traditions of Buddhism and indigenous cultures. Our common practices include daily morning meditation, council circles, mindful work, the Beauty Way and community potlucks as we serve the Foundation’s mission and steward the Land.
