This item consists of two health assessment sessions with Dr. Howard Kornfeld, founder and director of Recovery Without Walls in Mill Valley, CA. 

Dr. Kornfeld, a well-known authority in the field of chronic pain and addiction, has been a medical leader in Marin County for over two decades and is a member of the clinical faculty at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. His health assessment visits are one hour long and are done, either by Dr. Kornfeld alone, or in combination with a nurse practitioner, depending on the day and the problem involved. Dr. Kornfeld specializes in assessing the situations of those in chronic pain or in some area involving dependency issues with substances or behaviors. Mood disorders, which often have an element of unwelcome dependency or pain, are also assessed.

Dr. Kornfeld is often able to guide a patient to better care from the medical system they are part of (i.e. their primary care physician or Kaiser), we are also able to take them on as ongoing patients and help transition them to a better situation.  We usually rotate patients off of medications that are no longer helping them (particularly opiates and benzodiazepines), strategically using other medications that are less problematic and that can be gradually eliminated also.
