The Akron Civic Theatre was built in 1929, and one of only five remaining atmospheric theaters in the country where patrons experience a twinkling star-lit sky and intermittent clouds moving across the horizon, all while sitting inside the auditorium.

2012-2013 Performances Include:

• Motown Christmas (December 7th - 7:30pm): Celebrate the season with "A Motown Christmas Holiday Spectacular" by The Motown Experience. This is a world class vocal group assembled from former members of The Contours and other acclaimed Motown groups. The show features a blending of classic holiday songs and the classic Motown sound, dazzling choreography and impeccable harmonies. An unforgettable evening for audiences from 8 to 80.


• Ryan Humbert Holiday Extravaganza and Variety Show (December 14th - 8:00pm): Come to this all new Christmas show featuring Ryan Humbert with his acoustic band as well as some of Northeast Ohio's most talented musical groups presenting a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional holiday favorites.


• Jingle Bell Swing starring Helen Welch (December 16th - 2:30pm): Helen Welch will play the Akron Civic Theatre with her hugely popular holiday show Jingle Bell Swing. Helen will be joined by her fabulous quartet and the outstanding vocal talents of ETC Show Choir, Miller South Show Choir. Also included in the show will be special guests from the Hudson and Fairlawn Schools of Music in a Holiday show to make your spirits soar.


• Univeristy of Akron Steel Brum Band (January 27th - 2:30pm): Leave the winter blues behind and escape to the rhythms of the Caribbean with the University of Akron Steel Drum Band. Enjoy a fun Beach Party in the grand lobby. before the show.


• ZOSO (February 9th - 8:00pm): ZOSO, The Ultimate Led Zepplin Experience.
  In 1995, Zoso was formed to create the most mesmerizing and accurate portrayal of "the biggest band of the 1970's" - Led Zeppelin (Rolling Stone Magazine). Each member was selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. Zoso almost immediately developed an outstanding regional reputation and were awarded "Best Tribute Act in California" by Rock City News.


• Festival of Nations (February 23rd - 7:00pm): Join the fun of the Festival of Nations 2012 at the Akron Civit Theatre. Doors open at 6:00pm for food and interactive demonstrations. Enjoy dance performances from different ethnic groups from around the globe and a wide array of interactive activites, educational booths and international foods are also part of the celebration.


• Madcap Puppets - The Cinderella Files (April 7th - 2:30pm): Ever wonder what would happen if Cinderella's Fairy Godmother went on vacation? In Madcap's twisted take on the classic fairy tale, it's up to her husband Ralph, the Fairy Godfather, to get Cinderella to the ball. With help from the audience, giant puppets, and the '"big wand", Ralph might have a chance. In this hilarious production, Madcap also explores Cinderella as it is told by the Scandinavians in Diamonds and Toads, and the Indonesian version, The Crocodile's Baby.
