Description

Small group therapy sessions are for children ages 5-12. This program has been specifically designed for those who have learning differences, social challenges, and other special needs.

These sessions provide a unique therapy experience that serves as a compliment to ongoing traditional or play therapy. In these sessions, Carrie Heller, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and circus arts professionals help participants with:

  • Mind and Body Coordination: Focus, balance, orientation of one’s body in space, and flexibility

  • Physical Improvements: Muscle tone, overall strength, and motor skills (engaging the whole body to achieve a fluid, smooth movement)

  • Social Skills: Cooperation, taking turns, sharing, listening, teamwork, personal space and conversation

  • Emotional Growth: Self-esteem, empathy, and overcoming fears

As participants, children and pre-teens will stimulate their imagination and creativity by learning all of our Circus Arts Therapy activities in a playful, social setting, while focusing on community building, teamwork and safety. We work with both the physical and social aspects of timing: not only of when to do a trick, but also when to speak and when to listen. Through this form of movement we work on balance, strength, coordination and flexibility. In the process of learning these fun and unique circus skills, clients will experience "Therapy in Action.”
