Laurent was born in the Bay of Le Mont-Saint-Michel, France and began playing tennis at the age of twelve. He quickly became one of the top juniors in his region and played in the French National Championships though most of his teen years . He also competed in the European Club Cup events and has played ITF Challenger tournaments around Europe. Laurent played college tennis for Cardiff University (UK) and has taught tennis all around the world, including Avranches (FR), England, Saint Barts in the Caribbean, New York, the Hamptons (NY), and here in Marin County (CA). From 1997 to 2004, Laurent was the Director of Tennis at Marin Tennis Club before spending some time teaching at Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic.
