About the Artist
Born in 1939, Terry Rose discovered a passion for printmaking following his move to Colorado from Chicago. After mastering the basics, Rose developed a unique style of printmaking that involves painting directly on the plates, creating vibrant and multicolored images.
Drawn to painting pieces that capture the energy in motion, Rose used his background in graphic design to paint both athletes and performers. His figurative work won Rose much acclaim, and he received awards in illustration and poster design as well as earning commissions to create posters for large sporting events such as the World Cup Downhill Races. Rose has also had many solo exhibitions around the country, including a recent show at the Jill Thayer Gallery in Bakersfield, California.
Like the athletes that are often his subjects, Rose relies on preparation and instinct to create his paintings. Rose is always looking to paint a new challenge, whether this be the wild motion of roller coasters or large emotional abstract pieces.
