Description

This is a complete PADI Open Water certification. The instructor will provide a knowledge development workbook, dive table card w/ instructions and SCUBA equipment for use during the confined water sessions only.  The winning bidder should expect to furnish at their own expense, a mask, snorkel, and fins set, and any pool and/or travel related costs. All cost will be kept to a minimum.

Donation does not include the PADI Online course or the classroom session; these are options for knowledge delivery in the PADI training system. The winning bidder can purchase the online course separately @ PADI.com if he/she so desires. There are other exclusions as well; however The PADI Open Water training system is designed to be as flexible for the students as possible.

The PADI training system has three knowledge development options of delivering the knowledge information for the Open Water course during the knowledge development phase  - 1. Online 2. Classroom or 3. Home-study.

Knowledge development will be provided with the home-study option only via the PADI Open Water Diver workbook. This donation only includes the home-study option. This better allows the student to go at their own study pace. You will have phone, text, and/or email access to the instructor for any and all questions or assistance during the home-study. Once the student(s) completes the workbook, they will meet with the instructor in person in the Atlanta area and review what they have studied in the five knowledge sections and take a short quiz to be sure everyone is getting the knowledge information.

Also, the instructor will show the many types of scuba equipment and help you choose gear that best matches your preference and fit. While typically, some of the scuba gear you need for training is provided for at least a portion of the course, it's a good idea to invest in your own scuba diving equipment. Doing so will give you a chance to get to know your own personal scuba gear, and become comfortable with how it works.

Special Instructions

Note I: Location-specific, winning bidder should be local to Atlanta, GA or willing to come to Atlanta area for two week-ends. (Metro Atlanta area - This includes an 11 county area around Atlanta and can also be negotiated with the instructor. Travel expenses, if necessary, are not included.) Expires 10/5/13, one year after Auction close.

Note II:  Training material will be required and should be obtained from the instructor and/or online at PADI.com.  Learning materials/books (~$50), online classes if used, registration fees (~$20).

Note III:  The instructor may, at his discretion, provide all or part of the required SCUBA equipment for the in-water sessions (prior arrangements are required.) If it cannot be arranged, you'll need to provide your own scuba-quality mask, fins, snorkel, and booties (can be had for around $150.)  An exposure suit may also be needed, but not required.

Note IV: Requirements for taking a certification course:

  1. Basically you should be in good physical shape and be comfortable in the water. A clearance from your doctor would be a good idea if you have any doubts or medical issues.

  2. As far as age requirements, for PADI you must be 10 or older to take the course. Students younger than 15 will receive the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification. It can then be upgraded to PADI Open Water Diver certification upon reaching 15.

Note V: The winning bidder and donor will reach a mutually agreeable date for the knowledge review phase of the training; however the instructor is available during the workbook learning/home-study phase.
